About the School District for Homes in Penticton.

In British Columbia, each region is split up into different school districts to properly govern the public schools in that area. In the Okanagan, there are seven different districts that service various cities within the Okanagan. Owners of homes in Penticton are governed by School District No. 67 (Okanagan Skaha). This school district operates all public schools within Penticton, Summerland, Kaleden, and Naramata. Furthermore, SD67 is home to 18 different schools (11 elementary schools, 3 middle schools, 3 secondary schools, and 1 alternative learning site). There are over 5,500 students and 875 staff members within SD67. The motto of SD67 is “Connecting students to their community and their future”. 

The board of education for SD67 is comprised of 7 different trustees. Each trustee represents a different region within the district. How to Register Your Child for Public School in Penticton?

Kindergarten Registration:

For parents looking to enroll their children in Kindergarten, the process is fairly simple. In order to get your child registered in your neighbourhood school, you will want to register early. The earlier you enroll your child for their first year at school, the better. Placement is determined by your address and registration date. When enrolling your child, you will need to provide a few important documents:

  • Birth Certificate 
  • Child’s BC Care Card
  • Parental BC Care Card
  • Proof of Address (diver’s license, utility bill, etc)

Gather the above documentation before heading to your child’s desired school to enroll. You can register your child during normal school hours (8 am-4 pm). If you do not believe your child is ready for Kindergarten, you can defer their enrollment for one year. However, you will need to contact the school board about this. 

New to SD67:

For students who are from the Okanagan or other regions in British Columbia, you will need to register for a school within your catchment area.
